The snippet is inspired by the song I’ll Never Love Again from A Star is Born. Bobbie is speaking to Rose about not feeling ready to move on after the sudden death of her husband from a brain aneurysm. It’s been a year, but she is still hurting. She’s explaining to Rose why she turned down the offer of a date and may have been a bit rude.

How do I stay focused?
This may seem counterintuitive, but I give myself permission NOT to reach my goal. Someday I may be fortunate enough to have real deadlines, but for now, they’re self-imposed, and writing isn’t much fun if I stress myself out over it. I feel like we all have enough stress right now. When I let go of it, I want to make my goal and it’s fun again 😊

Word of the day - Sprint
We can probably all agree that writing a novel isn’t a sprint - BUT - I tried word sprints for the first time this week - and I’m hooked! I decided to give it a try with one of my NaNo groups and even though it was described to me as “the most anti-social social event ever” it was a lot of fun. And it reenergized my flailing attempt at keeping up with NaNoWriMo. I’m almost - almost - where I need to be in my sloppy draft. 😊

Tropes - it’s all in how the author spins it. If the trope is used as a formulaic crutch, it’s going to seem tired. But even an overused trope can be written creatively.

My MC is named Bobbie after my mom whose nickname is Bobbie - and oh boy - I grew up with LOTS of superstitions. I resist them now. The one superstition that Bobbie, Bobbie, and I all agree on - owning a black cat is GOOD luck 😄

How do I stay motivated?
Good question - Sometimes I don’t! When that happens, I allow myself to take a break - even a day off if I really need it. Most of the time, I enjoy writing and I want to see how my story unfolds - I find that motivating.

My MC’s wedding song. This was fun! - and prompted me to come up with more backstory. I really hadn’t given their wedding much thought. Bobbie and Dan would have married in the 90’s. They both loved dancing. I can picture them dancing to Extreme - When I First Kissed You
(I wish I could figure out how to include the music 🤷‍♀️)
